Better To Be Lucky Than Good

Twenty-one-year-old 2nd Lt. Richard LaMar Gillett downs a Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero on the east side of Luzon in the Philippines. Gillett was flying a Seversky P-35A on a reconnaissance mission near Muban, over Lamon Bay, identifying and counting invading Japanese landing craft and ships, when the chance came to shoot down a Zero.
